Will the cancer come back?

A A

Some parents feel anxious about treatments ending, because they feel that, as long as their child is having treatment, they are doing something to stop the cancer. But stopping the treatment does not mean the cancer will come back.

Your child will be monitored after treatment for any signs of the cancer returning. You will probably feel very anxious about these tests and nervous while waiting for the results, but they are an important part of the follow-up. Support groups are available to help you deal with this anxiety.

If the cancer does come back, there are likely to be many treatment options available. Some of the treatments may be the same, or the doctor may choose to use other options that were not tried before. New treatments might also have been developed that were not available during the first diagnosis and treatment.
