The Mission is investing $126.40 million over 10 years from 2017/18 to support research into brain cancer. This consists of $50 million from the Australian Government and $76.40 million to date in commitments from the Funding Partners.
Significant donations have been committed by funding partners: Cure Brain Cancer Foundation ($20m), Minderoo Foundation's Eliminate Cancer Initiative ($10m), Carrie's Beanies 4 Brain Cancer ($5.4m), the Mark Hughes Foundation ($3m), the Children’s Hospital Foundation Queensland ($10m), the State of Victoria ($2m), The Kids’ Cancer Project ($5.3m), the State of New South Wales ($7.5m), the Financial Markets Foundation for Children ($5m), the Robert Connor Dawes Foundation ($1.25m), ACT Health and Canberra Health Services ($3.95m) and the NeuroSurgical Research Foundation ($3m).

The Mission’s goal is for transformative improvement to the quality and length of life of people with brain cancer, with the longer term aim of defeating brain cancer.
To date, the Mission has provided:
- $33.24 million from the Australian Government, and
- $73.97 million from Funding Partners.
These investments were informed by the priority areas in the Mission’s original Roadmap. A further $12.07 million in Australian Government funding through the MRFF has been invested in brain cancer research during the period of the Mission to date. Further detail on how Mission funding has been invested is available here (PDF 337.63 KB).
In 2023, the Department of Health and Aged Care engaged the Centre for International Economics to conduct a review of the Mission. The report on review findings is available here.
Following the review, in the second half of 2024 a Ministerially-appointed Expert Advisory Panel (EAP) oversaw a refresh of the Roadmap and the development of an Implementation Plan.
The refreshed Roadmap and Implementation Plan underwent public consultation in November 2024. Feedback from that process will be considered by the EAP before the Roadmap and Implementation Plan are finalised and published.
Cancer Australia and the Department of Health and Aged Care work in collaboration with Funding Partners to deliver the Mission. Cancer Australia leads engagement and collaboration with the Mission’s funding partners.
