Cancer Australia has announced the 2019 recipients of its Supporting people with cancer (SPWC) Grant initiative, established to support community initiatives to improve wellbeing and outcomes of people with cancer.
Four community organisations have been offered grants of up to $120,000 to support initiatives aimed at reducing the burden of cancer through improving access to quality information and providing support for people affected by cancer.
The SPWC Grant initiative encourages effective partnerships between organisations in order to improve coordination, accessibility and the development of quality cancer support networks to better support people affected by cancer.
Since 2005, the Australian Government, through Cancer Australia’s SPWC Grant initiative, has contributed over $8.8 million towards 110 community grants nationwide.
The 2019 recipients of the SPWC Grant initiative are:
- Swinburne University of Technology Australian Carers Talk: An online cancer support resource for carers designed by carers.
- Monash University Integrated Management of Post Remission Leukaemia to Optimise longevity and Enhance Quality of Life (IMPROVE).
- Austin Health Addressing the barriers and facilitators of advance care planning for people with cancer: An investigation of perspectives of people with cancer, carers and health professionals and development of practice resources.
- Australia and New Zealand Melanoma Trials Group Improving Melanoma and Skin Cancer awareness in regional and rural Australia
