Cancer Australia has released new clinical guidance to assist health professionals in the management of women diagnosed with lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS).
LCIS is a growth of abnormal cells in the lobules of the breast. LCIS is not invasive breast cancer, but women who have LCIS have a high risk of developing breast cancer later in life. LCIS is a rare condition, and is found in approximately 0.4–3.8% of women who have had a breast biopsy.
The new Clinical guidance for the management of lobular carcinoma in situ, developed with the assistance of a multidisciplinary working group, aims to address the wide variation in how LCIS is managed in Australia.
