Cancer Australia is pleased to announce Jane Hill and Professor Lewis Perrin as the 2023 recipients of the Jeannie Ferris Cancer Australia Recognition Award.

The Jeannie Ferris Cancer Australia Recognition Award was established by Cancer Australia in 2013, to recognise outstanding contributions to improving outcomes for women with gynaecological cancers.

Jane Hill has been awarded in the Members of the Community category for her exceptional leadership and advocacy for ovarian cancer awareness. Jane has been instrumental in driving many public awareness campaigns, cross-sector collaborations, research and funding initiatives, and has demonstrated significant political awareness, savvy and advocacy effectiveness.

Professor Lewis Perrin has been awarded in the Health Professionals and Researchers category for his outstanding lifetime of contributions in leadership, research, teaching and mentorship. Professor Perrin has demonstrated a significant professional dedication to improving outcomes for women with gynaecological cancers across 30 years. He has improved outcomes by leading and facilitating research in gynaecological cancers, and has mentored and trained more than 50 fellows, many who are now at the forefront of their discipline in Australia and internationally; working in Great Britain, Germany, The Netherlands, Singapore, South Africa and Ireland.

This Award is named in honour of the late Jeannie Ferris, former Senator for South Australia who was passionately committed to raising awareness about gynaecological cancer in Australia. Senator Ferris was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in October 2005 and passed away in April 2007.
