2023 PdCCRS Funding Round Closed
Cancer Australia’s 2023 Priority-driven Collaborative Cancer Research Scheme (PdCCRS) grant round has closed and is no longer accepting applications. Submitted applications are being reviewed, with outcomes expected to be announced in December 2023 (Ideas) and May 2024 (CTCS).
How to apply
All researchers intending to submit a PdCCRS grant application should visit Can-Grant to register a new user account. Please ensure that all the information you enter is accurate. If you need to update or correct any details, you may do so through the user account settings at the top right of the screen.
Once registered, the researcher will be able to immediately begin preparing their application. All users should thoroughly read the PdCCRS Grant Guidelines available from GrantConnect (GO6206) before beginning their application.

Announcement of Research Priorities
Cancer Australia and its Funding Partners are pleased to announce their research priorities for the 2023 round of the PdCCRS.
This funding scheme helps to:
- fund research in tumour areas that place a high burden of disease on the Australian community;
- fund cancer research projects that directly relate to the identified priorities of Cancer Australia and/or its Funding Partners; and
- fund research that can directly improve cancer outcomes by influencing clinical practice, policy and/or care.
2023 PdCCRS Research Priorities
Funding will be available for research that addresses the priorities of Cancer Australia and the following Funding Partners:
- Australian Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation
- Bowel Cancer Australia
- Can Too
- Cooper Rice-Brading Foundation
- Leukaemia Foundation
- Lung Foundation Australia
- My Room Children's Cancer Charity Ltd
- National Breast Cancer Foundation

- Call for applications to the 2023 PdCCRS grant opportunity opens 30 March 2023; applications can be submitted through the NHMRC’s grant management system ‘Sapphire’ from 30 March 2023 for Ideas Grants and from 28 June 2023 for Clinical Trials and Cohort Studies Grants
- Minimum application data must be entered into NHMRC’s ’Sapphire’ system by 5 April 2023 for Ideas Grants, and by 26 July 2023 for Clinical Trials and Cohort Studies Grants.
- Responses to PdCCRS Questions to the 2023 round of the PdCCRS must be submitted to Cancer Australia’s ‘Can-Grant’ system by 17:00 AEST 31 May 2023 for all applications submitted through the NHMRC’s Ideas grants scheme which closes 17:00 AEST 3 May 2023.
- Responses to PdCCRS Questions to the 2023 round of the PdCCRS must be submitted to Cancer Australia’s ‘Can-Grant’ system by 17:00 AEST 6 September 2023 for all applications submitted through the NHMRC’s Clinical Trials and Cohort Studies Grants scheme which closes 17:00 AEST 23 August 2023.
Funding Categories
Cancer Australia and its Funding Partners invite applications for PdCCRS grants to commence in 2023. Project grants will be offered in the following categories:
Project Grants – grant categories
- Funding Category A: Project grants of up to three years duration, with funding available up to $600,000 (GST-exclusive), with a maximum in any one year of $220,000 (GST-exclusive), will be offered by Cancer Australia, Bowel Cancer Australia, National Breast Cancer Foundation, and The Kids’ Cancer Project.
- Funding Category B: Project grants of one year duration for up to $100,000 (GST-exclusive) will be offered by Cancer Australia, Australian Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation, Can Too, Cooper Rice-Brading, Lung Foundation Australia, My Room Children's Cancer Charity Ltd, Neuroblastoma Australia, and Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation to support project grants by post-doctoral researchers with up to 3 years post-doctoral experience or up to 3 years post MBBS qualification.
- Funding Category C: Project grants of up to 2 years duration for up to $200,000 (GST-exclusive), with a maximum in any one year of $110,000, will be offered by Cancer Australia, Australian Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation, Can Too, Leukaemia Foundation, Lung Foundation Australia, My Room Children's Cancer Charity Ltd and The Kids’ Cancer Project to support project grants by post-doctoral researchers with between 3-7 years post-doctoral experience or between 3-7 years post MBBS qualification.
Funding Categories B, and C cannot be used to provide a salary or other support for an Early Career Researcher as part of a larger NHMRC or PdCCRS project grant application.
Grant applications must address at least one of the research priority areas identified by Cancer Australia and/ or our Funding Partners.
