Staying healthy is an important priority for many people after treatment for cancer.
Once treatment is completed, you won’t be seeing health professionals as regularly as you were during treatment. This doesn’t mean you can’t seek advice or ask for help when you need it. No health problem is too small or too large to ask about.
See your GP if you have side effects or symptoms that are concerning you – usually something can be done to lessen side effects or relieve symptoms to improve your wellbeing.
Treatment for cancer can cause a number of side effects. The side effects vary from person to person. Some will only last a short time, while others take longer to improve. Common side effects include:
- fatigue (feeling very tired)
- pain
- changes in sleep patterns such as insomnia and disrupted sleep
- problems with eating and drinking such as loss of appetite or mouth or teeth discomfort
- changes to bowel and bladder function
