Treatment and care of people with cancer is usually provided by a team of health professionals, both medical and allied health, called a multidisciplinary team.
Treatment for gynaecological cancers depends on:
- the stage and type of the disease
- the severity of symptoms
- your general health
- your personal needs and wishes.
Treatment options included:
- surgery to remove as much of the tumour as possible, and to determine its stage (how far the cancer may have spread)
- radiation therapy
- chemotherapy
- targeted therapy, such as PARP inhibitors (olaparib, rucaparib)[1] or bevacizumab
- immunotherapy, such as pembrolizumab.[2],[3]
Research is ongoing to find new ways to diagnose and treat different types of cancer. Some people may be offered the option of participating in a clinical trial to test new ways of treating gynaecological cancer.
