The effective management of cancer requires highly specialised care that is delivered in a number of different settings. People affected by cancer are treated in both the public and private health care sectors, in urban, regional, rural and remote Australia and by a wide variety of health care providers. As cancer care is organised and resourced very differently throughout Australia it is increasingly difficult for people affected by cancer to determine which service(s) will be best able to meet their individual needs.
As part of the CanNET program, the state and territory project teams have agreed to develop a Directory of Cancer Services(Directory of Services or DOS). This directory will be designed to help people find the nearest multidisciplinary cancer assessment team and other cancer services based on their diagnosis and location.
Each state/territory CanNET will develop a Directory of Services using an agreed national template.
