Cancer Australia has today released three new resources aimed at encouraging greater engagement between people affected by cancer and providers of cancer care.
The launch of the new resources coincides with World Cancer Day (February 4), a day that provides an opportunity to raise awareness and education about cancer.
The theme for this World Cancer Day is Debunking Cancer Myths. This year, Cancer Australia will address one of the most prevalent myths; ‘We don’t need to talk about cancer’, by launching an animated video, poster and a series of targeted brochures.
Cancer Australia CEO, Professor Helen Zorbas said the resources would encourage consumers, health professionals, managers and researchers to work collaboratively to improve all aspects of cancer care.
“Evidence shows that working with consumers results in better outcomes and improves the quality and safety of our health care organisations and research.” Professor Zorbas said.
“The resources launched today will encourage everyone involved in health care to open a dialogue and work together with consumers, which can lead to positive change across the continuum of cancer care.”
Cancer remains the leading cause of the total burden of disease and injury in Australia, with approximately 128,000 Australians expected to be diagnosed this year.
