Cancer Australia is saddened to hear of the recent passing of Dr Ian Roos OAM.
A former Chair of Cancer Voices Australia, Ian has been a strong consumer advocate for people affected by cancer over many years following his own diagnosis with prostate cancer some 16 years previously. His leadership and commitment has left a strong legacy for consumer involvement and patient centred care at a local, national and international level.
Ian was instrumental in many of Cancer Australia’s activities over eight dedicated years (2006-2014) including contributing to numerous Cancer Australia Advisory groups, reference groups, panels and working groups, as well as co-leading the development of the world’s first framework for consumer involvement in cancer control.
Ian helped to define consumer engagement in cancer control in Australia and internationally. Ian’s dedication and leadership enabled consumers from across Australia to participate in shaping consumer involvement for better health outcomes.
Cancer Australia recently acknowledged Ian’s leadership and commitment in ensuring the consumer voice informs cancer control in Australia.
Ian will be sadly missed; however his legacy will live on and continue to influence consumer engagement for better outcomes for many years to come.
